Smarter in Appearance – What’s In for the Future

New developments for the equipments to be used with HD-PLC were also on display. Taiwan’s AverLogic Technologies and Fujitsu Microelectronics America exhibited the Power HD Link, the HD-PLC ready transmission equipment for sending video signals via the network. This equipment sends high definition video signals to another TV using H.264 standard with high compression rate. PLC adaptor was attached to the equipment during the demo which sent signals via the power line, but a version with built in HD-PLC is currently being considered for development. The appearance will be much ‘smarter’, in that the power cable will be the only necessary item to transfer the video from the set top box. Taiwan’s AOpen connected a network-ready digital signage player to the HD-PLC ready power strip with surge filters by HD-PLC Taiwan’s GigaFast during its demo and exhibit.

IGRS (Intelligent Grouping and Resource Sharing), a Chinese industry group, was also one of the exhibitors as a part of the HD-PLC Alliance Members and groups. Manufacturers of PCs and home electronics in China are members of IGRS. It is considering using HD-PLC as the power line communication technology in China, the reason for becoming a HD-PLC Alliance member. At this year’s CES exhibit, PLC adaptor under joint development was displayed under the IGRS brand. At the IGRS booth, prototype of the PLC adaptor was used for the internet connection of IPTV for the video transmission demo. This visualized the collaborative efforts between both parties.

Also on exhibit were display cases which gathered all the HD-PLC equipment. Panels showed updates on the activities of the HD-PLC Alliance, showing the widespread adaptation of HD-PLC. Routers with built in HD-PLC, PLC adaptors provided by service providers, and PLC accessories such as power strips, hubs, and noise filters; the variety of equipment appealed to visitors how widely applicable HD-PLC is.
