At the General Meeting, all participants first took a tour of the "Test House", the facility used to verify the operation of HD-PLC products. The meeting was then moved to a conference room. President Eiji Kobayashi of the HD-PLC Alliance summarized past activities after the inauguration in September 2007, and also talked about plans for the future.

During the meeting, President Kobayashi emphasized further efforts to promote the realization of "Green Ubiquitous", a society which can connect to a network anywhere, while reducing environmental impacts. As an example, he talked about how LAN cables were reduced by 600m by implementing HD-PLC at a junior high school. As for the quantity of CO2 reduction, this amounts to 27.6kg, said to be equivalent to 2760 soccer balls. In addition, Kobayashi showed examples of how HD-PLC is being used in new areas; at an overseas prison and at a ski resort. It is difficult for a prison to set up networks due to security reasons, so they use existing power lines with HD-PLC to install network cameras. Moreover, at the ski resort, Kobayashi said that a camera, which can see the top of the mountain from the foot of the mountain, was installed without new construction.

Also, Kobayashi shared about the international standardization activities, such as U.S. IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), which is pushing for the standardization of the PLC (power line communication) standards, and about the collaboration with Chinese IT system industry group, IGRS (Intelligent Grouping and Resource Sharing), which became official on July 10. IGRS is an organization in China which has 113 companies such as computer and home appliance manufacturers as members. As a result of the collaboration with this organization, "China will promote HD-PLC to become the Chinese standard through the activities of IGRS” ,said Kobayashi.

Moreover, HD-PLC Alliance has drawn great interest not only from the manufacturers who develop and sell the equipments, but also from other industries, such as the housing industry and the electric facilities industry. Based on this trend, recruiting new members from such industries was proposed.

He explained about the support system of the development of equipment using HD-PLC, and future experiments to take place at the Test House. A get together was held at the end of the General Meeting, so that the attendees from member companies could get some hints on new businesses, while exchanging opinions with each other.
