• PLC Adaptor for AV equipment

Panasonic has introduced its new PLC adaptor ‘PL-LS14KT’ and ‘PL-LS11’ for AV equipment such as TVs and Blu-ray/DVD recorders. This is seen as the tool to give TVs added value via new video content services such as ‘acTVila’ (Services in Japan) which is provided over the internet.

The PLC adaptor for AV equipment is not any different from the pre-existing PLC adaptors in that the security settings are already in place, and that it can be used right away when it is plugged in. What makes this new adaptor different is that the indicator, which shows the actual transmission speed, flashes.

• Transmission speed indicator lamp

The adaptor has three indicator lamps to show the transmission speed; when one lamp is lit, the transmission speed is at 6-12Mbps, two means 12-24Mbps, and three means more than 24Mbps.

This display is based on the assumption that the adaptor will be used for ‘acTVila’. More than 6Mbps is required for ‘acTVila Video’ which allows users to download video contents such as movies and various TV programs over the internet, and over 12Mbps is required to watch videos on full screen, the ‘acTVila Video Full’. The indicator lamp for the PLC adaptor for AV equipment is based on these two requirements; when one lamp is lit, users can enjoy ‘acTVila Video’, and when two lamps are lit, users can watch ‘acTVila Video Full’.

This PLC adaptor for AV equipment also comes with a noise-filtering power cord. The filter prevents electrical noise generated from household equipment such as AV equipment and routers from transferring through the wiring. It also comes with four LAN connectors. Users can connect not just TVs, but other equipment around the TV such as Blu-ray/DVD recorders and game consoles to the network.

Most of the pre-existing PLC adaptors were used by PC users, but this new PLC adaptor for AV equipment has a wider appeal since it is useful for other users and not just limited to PC users. This new adaptor will allow users to connect the TV and the surrounding equipment without the hassle of cables, while enjoying video content services on demand.
