The HD-PLC Alliance1 booth at CEATEC JAPAN 2008

In its efforts to promote adaptation of Power Line Communication (HD-PLC)2 technology, as well as further develop compatibility standards for HD-PLC-equipped products, the HD-PLC Alliance will set up a booth at CEATEC JAPAN 2008, to be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan from September 30th to October 4th.

The booth will feature HD-PLC Alliance member companies as well as companies that feature HD-PLC in their products, displaying a wide range of PLC adaptors, routers, and compatible peripherals. Second-generation PLC modules that can enable HD-PLC functionality to existing technology will also be on display.

Other products and applications of HD-PLC technology on display include: “Ethernet-equipped TV doorphone”, a PLC adaptor for Plasma TVs that enables door phone functionality, “PLC Adaptor for sensor cameras”, a power transmitter for sensor cameras, “Autolock door”, a doorphone monitor system that opens and closes via PLC, POS and audio/video delivery systems enabled with HD-PLC modules, and other applications of PLC, such as LED streetlight systems and projector conferencing systems.

Additionally, the HD-PLC Alliance has undertaken initiatives to address the growing problem of global warming through activities called “Green Ubiquitous”.3 4 As an example, a power monitoring system integrated into a PLC adaptor can measure levels of power use in household electric devices. It’s development kit is also available. Another example on display in booth is a “PLC home link system” where an electric vehicle can be checked on while it is being recharged, as well as observed in the parking area via a monitor, all linked by HD-PLC technology. Demonstrations such as these convey the future potential and convenience offered by applications of HD-PLC technology.

During the exhibition, HD-PLC related seminars are scheduled to be held, covering topics such as “Green Ubiquitous Initiatives” and “New Trends in Technology”. Through exhibitions and seminars such as these, the HD-PLC Alliance continues to actively promote the spread of HD-PLC technology both within Japan and throughout the world.
