Controlling window shutters with HD-PLC
HD-PLC uses electrical outlets throughout the home, giving new function to household items that had no real relation to the network inside the home until now. A real life example of that is the window shutters on display.
The shutters can be operated from the intercom control inside the house. JEM-A, the standard interface for electrical household materials such as automatic window shutters, and an adaptor which converts the IP, internet protocol are in use. A dedicated line for JEM-A is what usually connects household building materials and the control panel. If the two are physically far apart, the wiring will become complicated. The connection can become even more difficult if it is to be set up in a home that is already built.
The combination of the IP/JEM-A converting adaptor and the HD-PLC adaptor is the perfect solution to this problem. The IP/JEM-A converting adaptor is connected to both the shutter and the control panel. The signal from the control panel is converted from JEM-A to IP, then sent to the shutters using the electrical wiring inside the home via HD-PLC adaptor. The shutter uses the signal which the converting adaptor converted from IP to JEM-A again, sent to control the blinds. There is no need for physical wiring so the control panel can be moved to a different location at a later point in time.

The window shutters are what is on display as an example at the Test House, but this system can also be used for JEM-A-ready equipment such as electric locks and air conditioning. The control panel can be switched to PCs or cell phones. This means that even if the homeowner forgets to lock the front door when s/he goes out, it is possible to lock the door remotely from his/her cell phone.
